Will Jalsa beat Pokiri!

Lo and behold, Jalsa is very clearly spicing up the filmy atmosphere. If the film meets the huge hype created, then surely the producers of Jalsa will laugh all thier way to the bank. The question that arises now is, how much will the film garner, will it be bigger than Pokiri? Will Jalsa surge ahead pushing back Pokiri's collections?

The film will be hitting screens on April 2nd. The craze and hungama is mounting with each passing day. Newspapers are carrying special pullouts and news channels are beaming programs. Trade pundits predict now that if the film gets talk in the range of 'above average' to 'hit', Jalsa will redefine the Telugu men’s potentiality. Some further add that if there is any film that has potential to beat the record set by Mahesh Babu's Pokiri that collected more than Rs 50 Crores, it ought to be this extravagant Jalsa.

Pawan has not had any hits of late. His last hit film was Khushi. But Pawan's films never ran on loss, his so-called dud collected between Rs 15 to 20 crore. "If a flop film collects such revenues, imagine if Jalsa gets hit talk what would be its range. I am sure it will beat Pokiri's records," said Srinivas, a fan.

It remains to be seen whether it would cross the collections of Pokiri that made the entire nation sit up and notice our Telugu Cinema potentiality.

Interestingly, Mahesh Babu too has a role in this film as he lent voiceover to the movie. So in a way he will be sharing the credit too, if it breaks the records. Lets hope Jalsa breaks the records and also Pawan's jinx.

Suresh Productions backs out from 'Keka'?

Top production house 'Suresh Productions' that came forward to produce director Teja’s Keka is said to be backing out from the project. Buzz is that producer Suresh Babu is not happy with Teja's terms and conditions. Keka, which introduces all newcomers selected on a reality show of talent hunt, has also seen many changes.

Maestro Ilayaraja who was to compose for this film is not doing it now. Maverick cinematographer P C Sriram too expressed his inability to adjust dates for this. Hence the film is now devoid of all the big names that were earlier announced.

Mohan Babu's style thrills Puri
Hotshot director Puri Jagannath is all praise for versatile hero Dr. Mohan Babu. Puri says that working with Mohan Babu will ever remain a memorable thing in his life. "It is a mix of fear and respect for him. His punctuality and discipline on the sets can't be expressed in mere words. They have to be expereinced with admiration." It is known that Mohan Babu plays a vital role in Puri's film with Prabhas - Bujjigadu - Made in Chennai. The film is set for release in this summer itself. Earlier, SS Rajamouli expressed similar admiration for the actor, when he was doing the role of Yama in Yamadonga.

Tamanna ousted from Sukumar- Allu Arjuns' film!
Teenage sensation Tamanna gets setback in Tollywood. The beauty has been ousted from director Sukumar's next film with hero Allu Arjun. She was first chosen for it and the producer Allu Aravind who has her dates signed on her for this forthcoming film.

Buzz is that director Sukumar is not happy with her choice as she doesn’t well suit the character. Hence they are now discussing various options including Ileana, Kajal, etc.

It remains to be seen who would step in. Tamanna has now only one film on her hands in Telugu - Sushant starrer Kalidasu but she is quite a busy star in Tamil.

Chiru political entry sure on April 7!!

At last, the much-awaited political hour is going to dawn on April 7th (Ugadi Day) for Megastar Chiranjeevi. The date continues to remain in the media since for one and half a month. Conforming this, reliable sources said, the actor will sure announce his decision to enter the political arena, but not to disclose matters related to the name of the proposed party or its election symbol. The remaining part of the suspense - party's name and symbol- will be cleared only after the by-elections are over, sources maintained. Of course, several rumors made rounds earlier that the party would be named as Swayamkrushi and the election symbol would be the Rising Sun or Torch. Though, the Chiru camp wanted to delay the announcement till the by-elections are over, later the idea was dropped as Telugu New Year seemed to be the right hour for Chiru to address the public. The actor is more likely to turn his guns against the demon of corruption, chanting the mantra of social justice. Further details are awaited.

Time for Balayya to speak out?

While politics has become a burning topic in the circles of Chiranjeevi, it all turned into a damp coming to Nandamuri Balakrishna, who seems to be observing dead silence over his colleague’s political entry. Internal sources say even the TDP supreme Chandrababu Naidu too has advised NBK not to make any comment in this regard. Though both the stars are screen rivals, NBK is said to have extended many a word of praise for Chiru with his near and dear. In this backdrop, it is widely heard that in case of Chiru’s political entry, Chandrababu might use NBK as a potential campaigner. A crude version already goes that CBN got his son married to NBK’s daughter as part of the political strategy, which might not be accepted by many. Sending Harikrishna to Delhi politics as Rajya Sabha member too comes under this strategy, it is observed. As of now, NBK is not interested to make any direct statements, but would be coming out soon. However, it is believed that Balayya will surely make his stand in the coming months and might even contest the polls. By that time, he would be completing his two films – Pandurangadu (underproduction) and Sadhu (proposed film with Gunasekhar) and another one with Rajamouli.

Pawan’s case adjourned, Nandini changes lawyers!!

The Vizag court adjourned the divorce case filed by Pawan Kalyan to the 11th of April. This development took place after Pawan’s lawyers filed a petition seeking to add the testimony of Pawan’s friend Ananth Sai. Also Pawan’s estranged wife Nandini has filed a petition seeking the court’s permission to change her attorney Satyanarayana. From now on lawyer Bhavani Shankar and an associate will be representing Nandini’s case. The court had adjourned the case to 11th April after granting the two petitions.

Tremendous buzz around Jalsa!

Jalsa was already in news as it has the lethal combination of Pawan, Trivikram and Ileana. Now with political parties showing interest, the film has gone into sizzling hot zone. This is almost close to heat generated by Rajnikant's Shivaji. Jalsa, which runs for almost 3 hours, got a U/A certificate on Thursday.

On other hand, Jalsa, is giving politicians in Andhra, sleepless nights. Yes you read it right! Reason for this is that Chiranjeevi will be announcing his political plans this Ugadi. This report has put politicians into action and most of them are trying to book theatres on the release day, which happens to be the 2nd of April. Some leaders on coastal Andhra have gone a step ahead and blocked the theatres for entire week.

Rumours are that, if this film turns out to be big blockbuster, Pawan Kalyan and chiru would not waste time in making thier stand clear on politics. Ruling Congress party is vying to take lease of the theatres in a bid to keep Chiranjeevi fans in the party cheering.

The regular norm is that, when a big film releases politicians and business men book large scale of tickets. But Jalsa starts a new trend where the theatre is blocked for a whole week. Sailaja theatre has been blocked for one week by Vijayawada east legislator Vangaveeti Radhakrisha. Kankipadu legislator Devineni Nehru is also said to be negotiating with the exhibitors. This of course has built enormous pressure on the TDP leaders.

Jalsa Special Update

Pawan Kalyan and Ileana are playing the lead for the first time, with the star cast including Parvati Melton and Kamalinee Mukherjee. Its music scored by Devi Sri Prasad is already declared a hit.

Jalsa cinema length 3 hr 30 mins?

As for filmnagar sources, the dummy copy of Jalsa was censored yesterday afternoon. It is also heard that total length of the film has come to 3hrs30minutes and in which 30 minutes trimmed in the editing room itself. We have to wait and see how far this rumor is true?

Ileana loses temper at media

It’s a public affair when any actress comes to a public place. Heroine Ileana went to launch a commercial outlet at Dilsukhnagar area in Hyderabad. Naturally, a huge gathering thronged the venue, going berserk to have a glace at the glamour queen. On seeing the crowds, she expressed her displeasure and poured out her ire at them, asking them to leave the place or stay at a distance. Further, she also felt irritated on seeing the media and was reluctant to pose for photographs or to talk to them. In order to control her anger, she moved to a corner and stayed silent for a while. Soon, she realized her short-temper and apologized to the media.

Nagarjuna and Lawrence back together

If top actor Nagarjuna accepts one as a friend, he will trust that person blindly and will stand up for him/her anytime. He shares this sort of relationship with director Lawrence. Although their last release, Don, received barrage of criticism from all quarters, the film did collect good money. Hence, Nagarjuna's faith in Lawrence is intact.

Now they have teamed up for third time. According to our sources, Lawrence will be directing Nagarjuna again this year and it will be produced on Annapoorna Studios banner. The film will be stated towards the end of this year after Nag finishes his new film, King, to be directed by Srinu Vaitla.

It is Nag who introduced Lawrence as director with Mass.

'Athidhi' Amrita Rao turns sexy!

Amrita Rao of Athidhi fame is no longer demure. She gives up on her traditional looks and goes for complete makeover. With the able help from top designer Manish Malhotra, this Kannada Kasturi turns sexy and hot. You will be seeing her in very revealing outfits like other glam babes.

No function for 'Kantri' audio release tomorrow

Audio of NTR's summer release, Kantri, will be releasing on Friday (March 29th) directly into the market. No ceremony marking the audio launch will be held. Aditya Market, the company that bagged the audio release is distributing with huge number of audio albums.

Currently major sequences are being shot on NTR and Prakash Raj. Earlier, producer Ashwinidutt planned a big function for the audio and invited Rajnikant but now they plan to hold the same for platinum disc celebrations. Its music scored by Manisharma is said to be rocking.

The film is directed by Meher Ramesh.

Happy Birthday! Ram Charan Tej

Ram Charan Teja turns 24. Today (March 27) he celebrated his birthday without much pomp. He is currently shooting for Rajamouli's film in deserts of North India and will be shooting on his birthday too. Last year, he celebrated his birthday on the sets of Chirutha in Bangkok. Megastar Chiranjeevi and his wife Surekha and other family members descended on to the location in Bangkok.

But this birthday is going to be very quiet affair. Rajamouli and other unit members are planning a special party for the birthday boy after the end of the day's shoot.

Ram Charan who proved himself in his very first film is looking quite different and handsome now. We wish him a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY

'Jalsa' Mania all over the state

Vijayawada: It is increasingly becoming tough for the leaders particularly from the ruling Congress to 'contain' the fans of matinee idol Chiranjeevi ever since reports on his likely entry into the politics hit the headlines.

In a fresh bid to keep Chiranjeevi fans cheering, the Congress leaders are vying with each other to take lease of the theaters where the Pavan Kalyan-starrer 'Jalsa' would be released. "It is a new trend. Earlier, they used to take tickets in large scale for a show or two. But blocking the entire theatre for a week is surprising," admitted an exhibitor Venkateswara Rao.

Vijayawada east legislator Vangaveeti Radhakrisha reportedly blocked the tickets in Sailaja theatre completely for one week and Kankipadu legislator Devineni Nehru is also said to be negotiating with the exhibitors. Sources said Nehru's son is leading a fan club of Chiranjeevi with a support base of a few hundred youth in the city. Interestingly, the pressure on the TDP leaders is also mounting. "The youth are demanding that they should get some tickets at any cost. With theatres are blocked by ruling party leaders, it might be difficult for us to get some tickets. So, we too might have to block a theatre or two," admitted a TDP leader.

The film produced by Allu Aravind is scheduled to be released on April 2 in about 15 theatres in the city. Interestingly, the fight in Guntur, another Kapu-dominant city, appears to be more with almost all the leaders entering into agreements with the producer straightaway.

According to sources, Allu Aravind, who himself manages Krishnamahal theatre, has leased out it to an enthusiastic industrialist Tulasi Ramachandra Prabhu. Prabhu's son is aspiring to jump into politics once Chiranjevvi launches the party. "He is said to have paid Rs 7 lakh to the producer to block tickets for all shows for one week," a Chiranjeevi fan said. Guntur II legislator T Venkata Rao booked Naaz theatre for the first week, while Guntur MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao's family took another theatre Hariharamahal into their fold with a sole aim of keep the Chiranjeevi fans happy.

Mayor Kanna Nagaraju, himself a Kapu, entered the fray in the final moments and has started negotiating with the distributors of the Swamy theatre. "It is a clever ploy by the producer to encash his brother-in-law's craze to make his investment safe," observed a former censor board member. Normally, the producers would not interfere once the rights of distribution had been sold out. However, in the case of 'Jalsa', Aravind is reportedly directly dealing with the leaders even after giving away the rights.

Jalsa Audio Review: Special

The first time coming together of many artistes – Trivikram, Pawan Kalyan, Devi, Illeana – has generated so much buzz and hype around Jalsa that it’s just incredible. How else can one explain the audio leakage of 3 very good numbers from this album even before the official music launch? How else can one explain the video leakage of Gaallo Telinattundei song? Whatever has happened is bad but it may have very well turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the movie. Despite the atrocious video quality, Gaallo looked like a cracker of a song. But that, my friends, is beside the point as we’ll all head to the nearest theatres next week to check that out.

The question for now is, does Devi score it big with hismusical store? Read on –

1. Jalsa nilnil
The title song of Trivikram’s Atadu was a somber number speaking about the hero’s character and his persona in the movie and if Jalsa’s title song is any indication, Pawan is a super hero with full of masti. Saying it all are some catchy lyrics by Sirivennela. Devi’s choice of the singer couldn’t have been more appropriate for Baba Sehgal, returning to Telugu after Roop Tera Mastana [Rikshavodu], injects that aforementioned masti into this enthusiastic number accompanied by Rita. Sehgal croons Karo karo zara Jalsa and you unknowingly chime in.

And if this doesn’t spice you up, there’s a very cool remix in the album that is sung by Baba Sehgal and Devi.

2. My Heart Is Beating
It’s a beaten to death situation – a guy expressing his feelings upon discovering that he is in love; something like, say, Nenu nenuga lenei [Manmadhudu]. While Sirivennela wrote the latter song completely with words that have a poetic touch, here he opts for the youth appealing route by embellishing the song with English words and yet talking about talapulu, talagaDa to talabaDaTam, paDuchu ratHam, madanuDi rhythm etc. Undoubtedly, this ranks very high among Kay Kay’s Telugu song renditions. Outstanding! Take a bow, sir. And you too Devi, for giving us quite a melody.

I shuddered to try the remix version of this song, dreading to imagine the outcome; but what you hear takes you by a pleasant surprise. A sensible rework enhancing the beauty of the song.

3. You & I
By the time you hear this song (assuming you’ve heard the above two prior to this), you’d be really surprised by the way Sirivennela was asked to write lyrics to the songs that were given to him in this album. Trivikram’s request to Sirivennela must have been - Whatever you write, please ensure it is catchy so it appeals instantly to the jalsa craving youth. Sirivennela abides by that but not sidelining the core quality. While you hear a line like - “You and I lets go high and do balle balle. Life is like a Saturday night let’s do balle balle.”, at the same time you also hear a line – unTE neelO nammakam kanneerAinaa amrutam, kashTam kooDaa adBhutam kaadaa? Both the stanzas are beautifully worded; especially the second one is a classic flowing out of Sirivennela’s pen. Devi does a wonderful job of both singing and composing this high energy number.

4. Chalore Chalore Chal
apuDepuDO aaTavikam, mari ipudO aadHunikam! yuga yugaalugaa yE mrugaala kanna ekkuva Em edigaam?
raamuDila edagagalam, raakshasulanu minchagalam! rakarakaala musugulu vEstu marichaam epuDO sonta muKham.
Need I say anything more? Sirivennela’s razor sharp words depict the frustration of some genuinely concerned souls in this short song sung with gusto by Ranjith.

There’s also a Hindi version that is penned by Raquib Alam and he does a great job too. Devi sings it which though catchier than the Telugu version isn’t as forceful. Then again, Raquib wasn’t transliterating it from Telugu.

5. Jennipher Lopez full
Agreed its catchy but per me this is the weakest link of the album. Rama Jogaiah Sastry’s words are crooned in a lively manner by Benny and Priya but at times their irritatingly accented singing, coming across as a deliberate attempt, gets on to your nerves.

6. Gaallo Telinattunde
Despite it’s heard before feel, this one’s infectious mainly for Devi’s racy rhythm and tempo. Tippu and Gopika Poornima lend their voices to the words written by Bhaskarabhatla. If this one doesn’t get you grooving yet, then I bet you’ll like this song better after you’ve seen it because it has some cool choreo.

When Trivikram, who is not known to speak much in public functions, announced during the music launch of Jalsa that Devi’s music for Jalsa is extraordinary, you cannot help but to take his words seriously. Devi’s music for Jalsa, despite some traces of trademark Devi stuff, is peppy, youthful and incredibly fun filled, keeping in tune with the name of the film and may be even the hero’s character in the film. And perhaps that explains why Trivikram said what he said.

To cut a long story short, Jalsa is sheer fun!

No hurry for Nag Chaitanya's debut

Nag Chaitanya, mostly viewed as the screen-heir to Nag and Akkineni family, is going to have a fine muhurt of his debut film on September 20, 2008, coinciding with the birthday of his grandpa and Tollywood's trusted guide Dr. ANR, sources close to Nag's family said. His debut is being planned very carefully not only by Nag but also by ANR. Several rumors already appeared in a wide section of the media in this regard. Nag has a couple of directors in his mind as the possible captains of his son's debut, but nothing can be taken for sure till June end. The possibility of dropping both the names and going in for a debut director is also not ruled out.

Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain : Shah Rukh Khan- Airtel

Shah Rukh Khan will be testing your general knowledge and if you succeed to answer the questions correctly you will be rewarded Rs 5 crore in the new game show called “Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain.” Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain is an upcoming game show to be hosted by Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan. The show is expected to begin airing on STAR Plus on April 18, 2008.

“Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?” is going to be one of the biggest deals between Airtel and Shah Rukh Khan, in which Shah Rukh himself is getting Rs 40 crore for this programme. SRK was paid Rs 25 crore for KBC, but this time it is Rs 40 crore.

Nagarjuna introduced Kalidasu to the Media

Sushant – grandson of ANR and PAP Subba Rao, son of Naga Susheela and nephew of Nagarjuna – is being launched as hero with a film titled ‘Kalidasu’. ANR and Nagarjuna jointly introduced Sushant to the press and media today evening at a press meet held on Annapurna studios.

Sushant should work hard and prove himself - ANR

Speaking on the occasion ANR said, “Sushant’s other grandfather PAP Subba Rao was a great producer. I acted in 15 films produced by him. And my second daughter married his only son. I feel that acting is does not come as hereditary. One should have something inside them to become an actor. The background of us will help them to launch. But once he is launched, it is his talent that would take him to great heights. Everybody ridiculed me when I was offered Devadasu. Sushant will also face that resistance in the beginning of his career. At one point of time they told that I could only do folklore films and I would be unfit for social films. I was charging 23000 rupees as remuneration for Keelu Gurram film. I brought my remuneration down to 7000 rupees to accept a social film called ‘Samsaram’. I feel that Sushant should work hard and prove himself.”

Sushant loves mass roles - Nagarjuna
Nagarjuna said, “Annapurna studios always encouraged new talent in terms of actors and technicians. Likewise Sushant too is being introduced just because of his talent, not because he is a relative to us. Sushant always wanted to be an actor since his childhood. He loves mass roles. I am confident that he would become a success.”

In a humble reply Sushant said, “I will work hard. I did my best for my debut film Kalidasu. I am waiting for the response of movie lovers once the film is released.”

This function is also attended by the producers Chintalapudi Srinivasa Rao and Naga Suseela.

Who will crank the camera for 'Robot'?

Confusion over the cinematographer of Shankar’s Robot continues. Earlier it was said that Nirav Shaw would be the cinematographer of the mega movie starring Superstar Rajinikanth and Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai. However, according to a grapevine, Nirav Shaw’s demand for a huge salary made Shankar look for other options.

The ace director then roped in Thiru but even this arrangement did not last for long. The latest news is that Thiru is out and Rathnavelu is in.

Rathnavelu, who is fondly called as ‘Randy’ in Kollywood circles, is one of the favorite cinematographers of the leading heroes. Moreover, he hasn’t demanded much salary to work in the project. So it is believed that Randy, who cranked the camera for movies like ‘Sethu’, ‘Nandha’, ‘Jeyam’, ‘Thirumalai’ and ‘Perazhagan’, will be the cinematographer for the mega budget movie produced by Ayngaran International and Eros Multimedia.

Rathnavelu is currently working for Goutham Menon’s ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, starring Suriya, Sameera Reddy, and Divya Spandana

CBN for Delhi, Chiru as CM?

Reports of Chiranjeevi's political entry are gaining ground day by day. Afresh, a newspaper today published that Chiru's entry into politics is all for sure, but it is not yet clarified as to with which party he would prefer to sign the tie-up. However, the reports said that a media baron held serious discussions with actor, the result of which was that TDP supreme Chandrababu would be sent to Delhi to deal with national politics, while Chiru could be made the Chief Minister. The discussion was said to have lasted for two hours. At a time when there is a widespread movement in the state inviting Chiru to come into politics, we have to wait and see what decision the actor would take. The so called media king is a close associate of Chandrababu Naidu. There is also a feeler that TDP has no other option but to get into a tie-up with Chiru, if it were to get back power in the state.

Cine MAA Awards 2008

Chiranjeevi all praises for Nagarjuna

That Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna share a healthy friendship is a known fact. One got to see a bit of that friendly rapport at the Cine MAA awards held on 23rd March at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Stadium. “I am not much of a businessman but I trust Nagarjuna’s instinct as one. That is why when he asked me join the MAA TV group I could not refuse.” On why neither of them where nominated in the best actor category Chiranjeevi was quick to say “Nagarjuna said that it would not be proper for us to stay in best actor contention as we are part of the board of directors. That is why we have opted out of it. It was Nagarjuna who said that we need to encourage the younger lot of actors. Hats off to Nagarjuna” Chiranjeevi said and on a lighter vein asked Nagarjuna if it was ok to contend for best actor two years from now.

Brahmanandam unravels career secret at Cine MAA awards
This year’s Cine MAA awards was event full in more than one ways. One such eventful moment was when veteran comedian and character actor Brahmanandam was felicitated on stage for becoming a part of the Guinness Book of World Records. After being felicitated when Brahmanandam took the mike to speak Chiranjeevi hurriedly took the mike away and had the comedian move around the stage for some time before he told the reason behind the small banter and related a small story “when I was shooting for my film Chantabbai in Vizag, on one particular day one man from the public gathering constantly stared at me in a very particular manner and that made me very conscious and I could not deliver the scene properly” Chiranjeevi related “so I asked him to move out of there. Later after the shoot director Jandhyala introduced the same man to me saying that he was a lecturer from Athili. I apologized to Brahmanandam and told him that we will meet up later in the evening. In the evening Brahmanandam entertained us with his mimicry and skits. I was very impressed and said that Athili or Palakollu was not the place for an artist like him and took him to Madras with me. That is how Brahmanandam started his career.” Chiranjeevi finished off by asking Brahmanandam if that is what he wanted to say or was there anything else. “You told everything sir. What is left for me to say” was Brahmanandam’s reply that had the entire stadium in splits. Brahmanandam thanked Chiranjeevi for encouraging him in this profession and said that it was because of Chiranjeevi’s encouragement that he was able to entertain the audiences all these years.
